More snow! More snow!

I kinda like snow... I like working in it at the fire department and like being home while it blizzards...yes I'm weird...but I still like it. Supposed to snow about an inch tonight.

And a Christmas party at 1 of the doc's homes Friday where I don't have to work the next day...WooHoo!!!

...and not too early to plan for my half-century mark in February..(the 14th, by the way). I'm hoping for something real special...any ideas????

Politics.....

Well our mayor may want to screw with our shifts because we've talked to the council on some of the things the mayor has been doing...eg the council didn't realize that we are budgeted for an extra man per shift but the mayor told our chief not to schedule them any more. Lots of other things too but the mayor called our chief and said that we are not allowed to talk to the council.

Ok, I usually don't spout off too much about this kind of stuff but was it wearing on me for a while.

On another note, Tim, our Washington support team was here this last weekend and we had a great time...and hopefully learned a few things to advance us....OUT OF MY POLITICAL RELATED JOB!!!!! Did I yell?

Still nothing new...

Half way through the shift again and nothing new..Had a shift off and that was nice. Another shift off coming up Friday...This is when our support team from Washington will be out. This is always a good time and we try getting as many new and existing business owners in front of him as we can. Not too many other business will give you this kind of support...for free....!!!

Vacation!!!

So my vacation starts...and I'm sore....I'm building visqueen windows for my gazebo (with hot tub inside) to block the wind in the winter. I used to just wrap the whole thing but decided to make these reusable windows. I'm sore because I did a lot of bending and screwing in awkward positions (knock it off you perverts!!!). Anyway...if I get a chance, I'll take a picture of it with cam phone or regular camera and let those that are interested take a look...

Drug check day.....Yucccccc!!

On the last Tuesday of the month we check dates and quantities of all our drugs and supplies. It's a necessary evil but a real pain. Up-to-date drugs are exchanged with nearly expired drugs, if any, and then replaced. All along while trying to run calls and throwing the truck back together so you can find everything during a call. On the other hand, it's time for a vacation!!! I usually take of 3 shifts around our anniversary (10/30) (12 years) in case we go anywhere. This year we're going to Mt. Pleasant, MI to meet up with a friend coming from Colorado to visit her parents. We'll stay at a B&B there for a couple of days. ......and I'll try to phone or laptop blog from there......no really!!!!

Business-wise, we had our weekly conference call for the business last night which was as good as it always is. We're trying a free conferencing service that you only have to pay for a long distance call. Since most of us have free long distance through MCI or our cell phones, this is really nice.

So I lied again...

I couldn't blog from the campground because I was on roam...Oh well...We did have a great time though!!!. Very relaxing..

And the picture is of my 2 nephews at the Covered Bridge festival.... Posted by Picasa

Thursday, October 13, 2005

Ok..maybe I lied...
Maybe I will post by phone blogging while camping if I have service...

Camping...Covered Bridges!!

We're going camping in the area of the cover bridge festivals in Rockville, IN. The only thing we could find was a primitive site (no electric) but we don't care. My sister-in-law just got back from Louisiana for the Red Cross and set this weekend up for us. So...no blogging from now (October 13) until Next week sometimes... I know, how can you possibly be without my inciteful wisdom?????? Well Just look long longingly at my archive, I guess...LOL.

Just got off the station and nothing exciting except the man that went into the police department and wanted them to shoot him...because he was in so much pain. From what? I'm not sure...was a bit hard to understand but I know he had been depressed lately so his wife showed up and took him into the hospital herself...could she have decided that before waking us up at 4:30 AM? ...Was that insensitive??

And just got our XS energy drink...in root beer!!! Go here if you want more info...no carbs, no sugar, 4900% B12 and more!!! WoooHoooo!!!! (OK, I'll lay off the energy drinks for a while)

Jimson and teens

So we back up a nearby community thta needed a total of at least 3 amblulances for at least 5 kids aged 12-16 that took unknown substances and were semi-conscious. We ended up not transporting but the other community had their ambulances available. I guess Jimson weed was the culprit. They were alone at home but were chatting with online with some other kids. The mom of those kids was alerted and since they lived close, went to the home and the called 911. I never even drank at that age but I may have been a sheltered, shy kid also...LOL.

Kids were hallucinating a bit but should be fine.

Well another 10 calls

Well another 10 calls (by the way, if you want a peek at some of our stats and other info about our department, go to http://www.cpfire.com/) . 3 back to back including a full arrest and a “man down in the street”. We get to that call and the patient can’t tell us what happened but is cover in blood from head to chest and abdomen….so being the optimist that we medics are…we first look for bullet holes…but can’t find any. We do get out of the pt that he is “very drunk” (Surprise!) and we think he got hit in the head with an unknown object by, of course, by unknown subjects…which later found to be true. He apparently cut someone off while driving (another surprise…hmmm, drinking and driving….) who then got out of the car with a baseballbat and wacked our pt in the head a few times… hence all the blood ( any cut to the head bleeds a lot!).

An on the business side, we’ve just been called to host the speaker this Saturday. We’ve known the speaker since we have both been at the same level….he has moved up ahead of us rapidly which makes us both happy and…well mad at ourselves for not doing more, quicker!... Oh well…I will never give up!!! … unless it gets too hard…..lol

Exhibition Softball

Well, our Fire Department softball team played the special ed softball team in an exhibition game today. Our police department did the same earlier in the day. No, really... I know it sounds funny but this team finished 2nd in the state in their class! Since our team isn't that good anyway, it was funny to hear their coach say to make it more interesting, they would put some of the bigger players in that had just played the police....I don't think they know how bad we are!!! LOL!! Anyway they had quite a good team but we won. Their players were not severly handicapped and we may not have played quite as hard as we normally would have in a regular game but everyone had a good time and that's what it was all about anyway...and no, Ididn't play since I'm on duty...not to mention pretty bad myself!!!

Paris Hilton?

On another note to get more hits (even though as you can see on the counters, I flew by 10,000!!) someone said instead of "sex", "nude" etc, I should put things like Paris Hilton or Paris Hilton tape....but I would never do that. I have too much integrity...no, really.......he, he, he.....

Almost there....

Shift almost over and as I type, our other unit is out on a car vs pedestrian call...which more often then not are not as bad as it sounds (eg pedestrian walked into a moving car, etc). Not this one...1 dead pedestrian....don't know the details, they're still at scene....and we just got back from...you guessed it...an automatic fire alarm at the nursing home...the 3rd of the shift, all faulty equipment.

Another 10,000!!!

Well my other hit counter is coming up on 10000 hits!!! Another grand prize of major appreciation for the 10000th visitor!!! And, assuming that the possibilty of no one ever reading this from now on doesn't exist, I'll be celebrating this momentous occasion at work!!!! I may just give an extra amp of dextrose to some lucky person out there!

On a business note, 1 of our support team members conference called with me and one of my team leaders last night to strategize and give us some inside information on how Legacy got started. It was very interesting...

As I thought about the business more, I really didn't want to go to work today..don't get me wrong, I still love my job but know I can't retire from it until I get a better level of income...residual income at that (that's where money comes in after the initial work is done...no matter what you do..you can even be on vacation!!). And while I'm at work, I feel that it's not right to talk to sick, hurt, or dying patients about the business!!! LOL... So if I was off today, I could share this with other people.

As a last point, (I know...finally)...all I want people to do is look at this business..if they don't want to do anything or dont' like it, thats' fine...not everyone wants to go to accidents and pick up parts either! But at least they are informed...and the ones that get started have a chance to better their lives...I know that sounds corny but it's true.. I've spent 27 years helping people medically...now I want to help them monetarily.......................

What do you have to lose......What if it really does work?

Sunday, September 25, 2005

Speaking of Google...

So if I refer to Google Zeitgeist will I get more hits? It says it's "Search patterns, trends, and surprises according to Google".. Just curious.......

Ok, maybe this is another ploy to get more hits like my earlier attempts at the words "sex", "breast", and "nude"....

There I go Again...LOL

Google !!!!

There's Google search, Google talk, Google IM, now Google WiFi in our future!!! There's an investment club at the station and I told them Google should be their next purchase...but at $312 a share, they couldn't do it. So what do you think of the impending Google World? Since I have an internet based business, I figure the more internet exposure in general, the better!

Smokin' Elevator

So we go to the nursing home for a "routine" automatic fire alarm only to find an elevator transformer burning up and a person stuck in an elevator. No real danger for her but who wants to be stuck there? Anyway, as she walks out of the nursing home after opening the door, a lady comes out the front door where I was at, She asks" Is that what you opened the door with" pointing to the pike pole we use (a pole with a hook basically). I didn't know who she was thinking she was a bystander and said "Yep, that's our manual elevator door opener" and laughed....she swore at me and pushed by me.

Hey, I would've been nicer if I new she was a former trapped elevator rider!!

Double my sleep!!!

So it didn't work out like I hoped but I did get twice as much sleep as last shift!!! That's 4 hours!!! WooooHooooo!!!! .........................Migraines (whose husband insisted on blowing stop signs with me while I used lights and sirens....so I shut down the lights and the siren and went with normal traffic...too dangerous to let civilians run stop signs and lights with me), automatic fire alarms ..again.., and dizzy people..I mean they were really dizzy...not weird.....

BTW how would I post without periods???...........................................................

Friday, September 16, 2005

Sorry...

I didn't realize I had my "comments on post" turned off....

.....................comment away!!! ...

(unless you hurt my feelings) LOL

and here's hoping I get a few more hours of sleep at the station tonight!!!!

Thursday, September 15, 2005

Long night at the station

6 calls after midnight and just a whole lotta fun!!! We had falling down drunks almost home, bad accidents with unrestrained projectiles of people going through windows, automatic fire alarms with storm going through the area, and a whole lotta coffee!!!

Sunday, September 11, 2005

Phone posts

The last 2 posts made were from my phone during the conference...but I sent then to the wrong place...so I forwarded them tonight to the right spot from my phone (just to verify it was working). The thought was there though!! LOL

Bruce Wilkinson , author of "The Dream Giver" and "The Prayer of Jabez" and many more bestsellers, was 1 of the speakers and was awesome!!! I can't believe some of the guest speakers Legacybusinessgroup comes up with along with people that are successful in the business also.

Ron Ball was also there...just amazing...

--------
God says "Nothing that you can imagine to do will be impossible for you to do"

--------
Woohoo!!!! Bruce Wilkinson....more later

Thursday, September 08, 2005

WooHoo!!! 10,000!!!

Well we made the 10,000 mark!! Thanks for all the visitors and comments over the last few months of very active blogging!!! lol...

Working another 24 because 1 of our guys had an emegency appendectomy so they needed lat minute coverage so I offered to stay. 48 hours isn't too bad...unless you get busy of course!!

And after 2 auto accidents and and automatic fire alarm, we've now settled a little..

Tuesday, September 06, 2005

...And 45 more visits..

Until the grand prize winner of the 10,000 visitor to my site!.. You know...the prize of extreme gratitude, etc.....

1 more shift and then...

...Conference in Cincinnati (I think...that's a long story). Also 1 in California but we opted for this since it's driveable...therefore cheaper... Anyway, I'll psot tomorrow and if I can, afterwards and at the conference (if I can find a Starbucks to use the internet). Or I'll try posting from my phone.

Up since 3a...

Had a few calls...no reason to go to bed now...

We had a letter at the station from FEMA wanting 1000 2-man career firefighter teams to go to the hurricane-striken areas..it says you must be physically fit, "capable of living in austere, severe living conditions with minimal or no creature comforts for a period of at least 30 days", and basically bring everything you need that can be carried in a backpack. There's a screening process so I don't know how long it will be to get people deployed but am assuming that this is part of a long term solution.

So far, no one at this station is doing this but Indiana also is calling out for similar teams for a 2 week period.

Moving In...

Moving my son, Ryan, in this weekend...another long story but very happy to have him.

And 1 week until our Ohio conference...will keep everyone updated on that...I know...Yipeeee!!

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

...And another thing...

I'm nearing 10,000 visitors on one of my counters (not sure about why the discrepancy) so let's have a contest....who ever becomes visitor 10,000...gets.......a Real Big Round of Applause from Me!!!!! ...Oh....not the type a prize that would motivate people, huh.

Oh well..thanks for visiting anyway and I hope you have found this entertaining in the past...because there's nothing but Thrills and Spills ahead!!!! Especially when we're on the beaches of the world!!! WooooHooooo!!!!!

The ReDo is almost...done

As I type this on my laptop, the final software installations are going on with my desktop. I'm scrambling to make thinks just right since I have to work every-other-day at the station (I'm working an extra and someone wanted to switch with me) so until next Monday, I seem like I work a lot...

Not a lot of business stuff going on now...a little busy...but I need to make time for the business so I can be busy in other ways!!! Like relaxing on my gazebo calling people, computing,etc..

And nothing exciting at work.. a lot of "I've fallen and can't get back up" calls...must be the weather....

Thursday, August 25, 2005

Wipe out.....

No, not the song...and no, not falling off your motorcycle going 90 without a helmet...this is wipe-out-my-computer-so-I-can-get-my-computer-faster-and-on-the-way-get-rid-of-things-I-thought-I-needed-but-never-used Day. You know, it's like someone else cleaning out your basement and getting rid of things without asking you but you never miss them because you never use them...(am I rambling?). So it's time to format and hopefully, I'll be back soon......

Really.....

I thought I posted several times since the last but apparently I screwed up when saving or something...
Well, Elizabeth, my step-daughter moved back to ISU with our help and my niece, Alex moved in....long story there...
Work has been ok...inmate faking seizures because he doesn't have AIDS?....Oh yeah...his wife does....hmmm.....
I got up on our roof and tarred a few places to stop leaking...
I tried to upgrade the memory in my step-daughter's 4 year old computer....would have cost $200 so... I bought a new one for $350!! We used the file and setting wizard to tranfer between the 2 computers on our network and it worked flawlessly!!
Ok, I've probably bored you to tears...if you got this far...

Averaging 10..hopefully not today...

For the last 5 shifts we've had 10 or more calls per shift. Today we've had 3! Hopefully we won't hit on average in the last 12 hours. Pretty much routine calls today...

I have some more business calls to make this week. As much as I like my job, the politics is killing me and I have to get out of this job...We've been mandated to water flowers on the square every morning...which we have. Due to the heat of the summer (and I really think the plants aren't planted right either), the flowers are dying and we're being blamed for not watering. Now the mayor wants us to sign in when we water, who waters, and document how long we watered...and we have to have a city official go with us for the next 2 weeks to see if we're doing a good job!

Please sign up for the business so you and I can get out of our current jobs!!!!!!LOL

Seminar was great!!

The speakers, Jimmy and Lori Odum from Texas, were great...informitive and funny!! That's the kind of speakers that get messages across. Reminds me of Joel Osteen, the TV evangelist...(even though "TV evangelist" reminds me of the term used for fire-and-brimstone evangelist in the past, he is not like that). Watch him on your local channels or watch the live streamed broadcast at his site. I'd love to have him in our business...he teaches God's principals in everyday life.....the same principals used in our business....really...

5 Hours is better...???

A little more sleep last night at the station but 12 calls throughout the shift....On our way to 3000 calls this year where we have been at 2200. Anyway, 1 call was at a nursing home for a very talkative gentleman in his 70's with chest pain. It went away and we talked for the 15 minute ride into the hospital. The 1 thing he wanted to know was if we paid for our duty shirts. I said we do indirectly (we get a clothing allowance). He asked if I could get him one....so that's my next item on the to-do list...and I can run that out to him when he's back at the nursing home.

Our monthly meeting for the business is today and as always look forward to that. Have a few of our team going and waiting to hear back from a few more. The thing that's frustrating is that people that want ot do this as a business should just put this on thier calendar and know about it. But I constantly call people and they're surprised when the meeting is (we know a year in advance). I don't mind if they don't build the business but let me know. Otherwise schedule it!!... Ok...I'm done..

Wednesday, August 03, 2005

3 hours is good enough for anyone....

That's about how much sleep we got last night. A large flood light that is on the ground illuminating the courthouse caught fire, an inmate at the jail hung himeself with bedsheets, a lady with trouble breathing that just wanted a little oxygen and not go to the hospital (we eventually talked her into it).

The business has been a little slow...my fault though. I haven't been getting out as much lately talking to people as much as I normally would be doing. What keeps me going though is I have no alternative for extra money for retirement, etc. I don't think I'll be happy to live on 1/2 of what I have a hard time living on now. And I don't want to go on calls as above and sleep as little as we do sometimes, etc until I'm 70! And I don't want to be a greeter at Walmart to make extra money when I retire (no offense to current Walmart greeters...that's just not for me)........

Saturday, July 30, 2005

Well...not Too boring, I guess....

Six calls before 12p....We thought the guy jammed behind the bathroom door was dead. With the help of the police, we pried the door jam off, opened the door backwards (out), and got to the patient. Patient was just recovering from a seizure and was fine.

Then we go to an unconscious patient and find a combative diabetic with too little sugar in his system. In his stupor, he poured syrup on the table and rubbed his hand in it to lick it off his hands (his sugar was only 28 - normal is 80-120)..he was on the right track...he needed sugar....but now he's kinda slippery to fight with...and he did fight with us He proceeded to throw 3 of us around like we were rag dolls. When fire arrived, we took him down to the ground and gave him sugar in his vein...poof!...he's all better and wants to eat. Now he sits down to finish his breakfast before we take him in.

Fianlly we go to another diabetic that is out of it with a sugar of 35...after dexrose was given in the IV, poof!..she's better and doesn't want to go to the hospital.

So much for a boring life..

Tomorrow we have a cookout for the guys on our shift and their familes and some police, etc.we try to do this once a month at a different home each month...I'm looking forward to some relaxation if we van get through the rest of the shift... I guess I better eat now!!!

P.S. If I have mispelled word, it's because I can't see well after losing my glasses on the first diabetic call...during the fight...sorry

Monday, July 25, 2005

I guess my life is a little boring at times...

Nothing new in the past few days. Our hot shift consisted of 6 grass fires that lasted about 2 minutes each. We did have a woman that was found unconscious with her top burner of her oven on without a flame...she had been drinking and there wasn't much gas in the house even though we didn't know at first if that was the problem.

So that's been it..I guess boring is good at times..

Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Nothing exciting...at least not like the other Day With The Goats...

Last 2 shifts were fairly uneventful. And other then normal things at home, and a product demo for the business that we had, nothing exciting has been going on off-duty. We do have to decide if we're going to conference in California (more fun but more money for airline tickets, car rental) or Ohio. All of our support team will be in California but Ohio is driveable and more of our group can go.

I did find a cool little app ...Bitty Browser..I just strated to play with it...let me know what you think and play around with it..and join my network if you want..( no, not a money-making scheme!!). It's down the page on the right.................

Ok..off to a routine Dr's appointment and lunch with my boy Ben....

Goat Blood and Killer Dog (almost)...

Well that title got your attention...but seriously, yesterday my sister-in-law called and asked if I could help cut her goat's horns off (my niece shows the goats at the county fair and horns aren't allowed). Apparently this is a painless but bloody procedure. Then the stub is cauterized with a hot iron device. Well the 1 horn kept shooting a stream of blood out and took several minutes to finally get it to stop. Meanwhile, the 180lb Mastiff is playing with my nephews hunting dog (about 70lbs) when the Mastiff goes wacko and clamps on the throat of the hunting dog. The Mastiff won't let go even after kicking and hitting him on his back with a 2x4!!! Finally, after my nephew opened the Mastiff's jaw like a lion tamer, and after my sister-in-law got bit by the hunting dog, the Mastiff just walked away leaving the hunting dog ok except for the stitches needed for his this throat.

I don't think the Mastiff will be around much longer...

Working 24 today and will let you know the thrills and spills that occur today.

Pergola pic..

For those that don't know, here's a picture of a pergola (oh yeah..and with the right spelling)....Not my pergola picture though...darn.....

Monday, July 11, 2005

A Purgola??

I didn't know what it was until I built one. But thanks to the Internet, I found it and built itin about 2 days. I'm not the handiest guy in the world but it looks like it won't fall!!!

Seminar was great ..I helped with the sound backstage. One of the groups in Iowa is exploding...signed up 90 people in 2 months!! Not all will do the business but that is still pretty impressive. Especially when no one gets money for just signing people up. Of course like any business, volume has to go through the business for anyone to make money. But another great aspect of the business is there are no minimum purchases. You don't want to buy anything, you're not penalized... you just aren't going to make money in the long run.

London Blasts...

Well with my 10 calls in the shift, including drunks and elderly falls, I am not about to comment on my day in light of the London bombings. I'm not a vengeful person but something has to be done. I wish I knew what..Our prayers go out to the friends and familes of the victims injured or killed...and for those psychologically effected.

Monday, July 04, 2005

Great concert!!

Yes the Mellencamp concert was great and so was John Fogerty!!

...And my 4th of July half shift has resulted in 8 calls, 4 for my rig....including a trouble breathing patient that was unconscious and had a very low pulse ox (instrument used to measure amount of oxygen in the system...perfect is 100%).. hers was 60% and going down...After intubation, pulse ox went to 100%. She was still unconscious but now at least she wasn't blue!!!

And on the business line, 1 of the guys on my shift just signed up because he likes the products....things are progressing well.....

Thursday, June 30, 2005

Remember Johnnie Cougar?

When I went to Indiana University, a new singer had started his career...Johnnie Cougar...Johnnie Cougar Mellencamp...I bring this up because after the trauma symposium my wife and I are going to tomorrow, we're going to the Johnnie Mellencamp concert at the Tweeder Center in Chicago. Hopefully we sleep all night at the station and the opressive heat will be over also!!

I'll update in a few....

Monday, June 27, 2005

Working off duty too...

...So my niece pounds on our door at midnight saying a friend they were following crashed his motorcycle about 200 feet down the road. My wife and I went to him where he was sitting in the road complaining about a sore ankle. He had a small cut to his heel and that was it! He was really lucky...while driving about 70 MPH down a country road on a large Harley Davidson, this guy hits (and kills) a deer that ran out in front of him, loses control (duh) and crashes in the ditch about 200 feet away from the collision..and has a small cut to his foot...It never stops amazing me on how people do and don't get hurt in various accidents.

And now, in the sweltering heat, I'm getting paid to do the same thing!!! LOL

Saturday, June 25, 2005

A Murder in Crown Point

Well the papers (Post Tribune and The Times) confirm it...first murder since 1998 in this normally quiet town.

Other then that, a few more calls including a lady that just needed to be lifted off the floor at about midnight.

...and a police radio dispatch of "someone attempting to screw one of the bulldogs on the square". Here's the actual dogs.

Friday, June 24, 2005

An Extremely Warm Day

Working another 24 with heat index over 100..and have already had a DOA that is a "possible crime scene"...we'll see what happens.. Otherwise we try to stay cool and hope we only have fires in air conditioned places...LOL

Wednesday, June 22, 2005

An even dozen...

Ended up with 12 calls..including a 91 year old lady that fell 2 days earlier in her extremely small bathroom. It was very difficult to get this 190 lb lady up and out but we did it somehow. And she wasn't hurt from the fall...but had some pretty bad wounds from laying on her leg for 2 day as you could imagine.

And, business-wise, I go to help 1 of the people in our team get a new person started tonight...just showing them the site, seeing if they have any questions, etc. This is always a lot of fun for all of us as we get to know the people better and let them know they can call on us or the rest of our support team anytime they need anything...

Tuesday, June 21, 2005

Not even Half over...

Eight...maybe ten calls so far!!??!! Power outage that led to an elevator rescue, loaning a generator to a bed-ridden person, carbon monoxide check, several medical calls, twisted ankle...can't wait for round 2 (the second half of the shift.. about 16 hours left)...)

Sunday, June 19, 2005

It's Morning...

I think I'll stop blogging at work..we seem to always have calls at night when I do (we emergency medical folk are a superstitious lot..eg "Don't say it's 'quiet'..we're sure to be busy then!!)! Anyway we've had 4 calls after midnight with our rig handling 2. The last was someone passed out on a corner after a night of drinking, as the patient said, "lots" of alcohol. But we did get to use a word out of the movie Hitch to this patient...."Ok, Pumpkin, get up and get on the cot". He moaned something, tried to get up, and then was lifted to the cot.

And today we have a cookout for Father's day..and I could use a few Coronas to unwind....and I will (drink Coronas and unwind). I'm not a big drinker but when I know I don't have to drive anywhere, I do occasionally take advantage of that....LOL.

An Extra Shift

They were short and the secretary, Deb (who will do anything for you), asked if I could work the last 14 hours yesterday...so I did. I don't mind doing that every once in a while but since the business, I don't have to or want to...work any extras anywhere. When the business got more successful, I stopped working my five extra jobs at various ambulance services. So I work extra when the department needs me to and that's about it.

The shift itself was pretty quiet...1 call in the early evening and that was it...a lady with cancer...I guess there is a reason for everything.... even suffering like this....................

Tommorrow is my regular shift and the 11th Annual Pancake breakfast...if you're close...come on down (go to Crown Point Fire Rescue site for more information) or email or call me...don't worry, I won't try to sell you anything....except a pancake or two................he,he,he...

I Love Gadgets...

Here I am, posting from the kitchen of the fire station, wirelessly. I just got my laptop back from my step-daughter's trip to Sweden and this is my first day back at work with it. I know I'm kinda strange but I've always said for gifts, as long as it's battery operated, digital, or wireless, you can't go wrong!

We had 12 calls this shift but nothing overtaxing. A few accidents, a chest pain and a few trouble breathings...a pretty typical day and no one very serious.

And as far as the business, 1 of our team members, who works her butt off, just signed up 2 more people with a potential of 4 more. She loves the business and really wants to succeed. She, like myself, have no other alternative for retirement. I have a pension but it will pay me 60% of what I have a hard time living on now. And if I don't want to hand out carts at my local supercenter when I'm 60, my business is my only alternative, as it is for a lot of people. Do you have enough money when you retire to live as you do now?

...And why have I been ending my posts with questions recently????

A few new business tips...

Well I got our support team to Iowa and we learned a few new strategies for the business that will make this grow even quicker...That is another part of the business I love..no matter how well things are going, our team is always looking for ways to improve....

A nice thunder storm just went through... I love weather and storms, etc..who knows why. And the best weather site around is Wunderground. I watch with 20 minute increments where and when the storm was going to hit! It's free unless you want to pay $5 a year to remove ads.

And no work updates since I'm on vacation..back to O'hare tomorrow to pick up my step-daughter who is getting back from studying abroad in Sweden... More later..

What time is it and why am I blogging...

It's sometime in the AM and I just finished my report on our lethargic lady....drugs???...OD???...Stroke???....I don't know but other then being lethargic, everything was good with her...if you call lethargic ok....

And... I took my wife, Crystal, to the airport so she could go to her ER conference in California. And while on the plane, someone was having chest pain so she went to help but could not open "the box" with first line drugs in it because she wasn't an MD. Eventually an MD showed, the box was opened, IV's were started, nitro was given, and the gentleman got better. And for her efforts, American Airlines upgraded her on her flight back to 1st class!! So it's true that your good efforts come back to you 100 fold...........

Quiet night..trying to make it the last hour....

Quiet night and quiet shift with only 3 calls all together...so far. Hopefully I can make it throughout the rest of the 1 hour left on my 24. Going to take my youngest out for breakfast, Ben, and then go home. Tonight 1 of my parnters on the shift is having his gala 4th Annual Kick-off to Summer cookouts so we'll be there and may go out with friend on their sailboat on Lake Michigan tommorrow. So I'm off to have 1 of my no sugar, no carbs XS energy drinks (shameless plug for a product in my business).

Another 24..only 12 hours to go for some of us

A little busy today...and everyone seems really sick. The last was an 86 year old lady, alert but with no blood pressure for no reason that we could figure. Later we found that she had a drug-induced hepatitis caused by Zocor somewhere in her life and now it was "her time". We got a pressure of 90/72 after IV fluids were given but the hospital couldn't keep the pressure and the patient was a DNR anyway (Do Not Resucitate..where the patient and/or the family states they want no extraordinary means to prolong the patient's life). Her only complaint was dizziness. But as things progressed, they sedated her to make her comfortable (and as the oxygen content lowered in her, she became more disoriented, pulling at her oxygen, etc. and sedation helped there too) and apparently she passed away peacefully in the ER.

As a disclaimer, I'm only repeating what the staff and patient said about Zocor, which I believe is for high cholesterol. There are side effects to a lot of medications but the benefit usually outweighs the risks. Not to promote my nutritional line, but if supplements can take care of problems that medications normally do, I'm all for it. Of course I love our Nutrilite line of products but any good grade supplements are great as long as they're pharmaceutical grade, etc.

Want to join my experiment? (insert evil laughter here)...

I've been playing around with Netbux and Pay-Pup...partly because my boys are doing Pay-Pup also. These are Google searches you do (or you can try other search engines) and they pay .02 for every search up to .80/day for Netbux and 1.00/day for Pay-Pup. Ther's a lot of forums, etc that say how great these are and at the same time that they are scams. You can also buy referrals (they will pay you 100% of your referrals pay up to 1 deep). I bought 4 and they seem to be working occasionally.

Anyway...

If you want to try it out (this is the experiment )(evil laughter continues), Sign up with the link in my sidebar..it's free and just takes a little time each day...or just use it as frequently as you normally would while searching the net..

In a month or 2 I'll report what happens....... (end evil laughter due to stomach pain)

Well that didn't work...

At about 3:10 AM we get a call for a diabetic with low blood sugar. Now these kind of calls are interesting and you feel like you really make a difference. Sugar is low and patient is usually lethargic or unconscious. You give dextrose through the IV and Poof!... the patient is conscious and signing a refusal of transport.

But not this one....

Patient is still lethargic afterwards and you find that the patient has 2 months to live due to a brain tumor. This complicates a simple diabetic call and refusal, to say the least. Patient thinks wife is trying to kill him (please don't tell me that too) but find that tumor is on the part of the brain that affects emotions...or at least you hope that's the truth and the wife doesn't want the patient dead for insurance reasons etc. Maybe I've seen to many bad movies about this but we always have to think of the possiblities. More family came and everything seemed confirmed (as long as the family didn't want patient dead too...hmmm). Finally we find that the patient is always this lethargic after all the medications are given to him but this is only the 2nd night he's been given meds and did not wake up until later in the morning the last time meds were given (hmm... a lot of medications... overdose?...the plot thickens...ok I'll stop). So we left the patient there in the families care and yes, I did feel comfortable doing so after all that.

Phew!!!

So what do I do after a call like that? I blog...............

Thought I'd try to go to bed early...

Have had a few calls today...2 of which were ours (we have 2 ambulances and rotate calls..whether it's a medical or fire call). Both of ours were nursing home calls but none seemed to be too serious..at least IVs didn't have to be started. So now were not up for the next call so early bed sounded good.. I know it's only 9pm here but I need to take what I can get.

Also I have 2 appointments for the business tommorrow.. a paramedic in an Illinois who is in already and going to help him get started. The other is someone interested in the business and am going to show her the business plan. So a beauty nap is what I need (I know you can't give an opinion without a picture posted but just imagine) so I can look somewhat professional!

More on the water rescue...

If you want to read the articles and see some pictures:

Water rescue...

Interesting day yesterday..a girl that works for a dental lab "blinks" (as she put it), drives off the road and into a small stream..that carried her and her car 200 feet and stopped in the middle of the stream. The call came in as "vehicle in the water, subject trapped, car filling with water" which tends to give you the old pucker factor enroute. Well, when we got there, there she was, sitting with her legs crossed, on top of the car, with 2 boxes next to her, not injured. After the accident, she saved the dentures she was delivering and put them on the roof before getting out herself! Now that's dedication!! Our dive team got her out of the stream (it was moving a little fast but was only waist deep).

Almost made it...

It was about 6:45 AM and just finishing dishes, etc at work when we got a call (at least we slept all night)..(our shift ends at 7:20AM). Anyway... the call came in as a man fell off a steel beam (presumably on the ground) and fell cutting his leg. Well, it was close...a 3 1/2 ton steel beam fell off a forklift and fell on a guys ankle....It was obviously broke but a little nitrous and a little morphine made him relatively happy...at least made him forget about it for a bit.
Well today I go to 1 of the people in my business and we call people on her list to see if they're interested. This is pretty much the heart of the business...talk to people, see if they're interested, make an appointment for about 20 minutes if they are, see if they want more info or want to register, do it all over again... It's a nice change from helping people that are sick and injured to helping people who are financially ailing...

Nothing exciting..

Off to bed after watching Electra..the movie...and yes, we get to watch TV, etc while on duty as long as we get our things done around the station and of course, as long as no one calls 911!!! We are up for the next fire or ambulance call so I'll let you know what tomorrow brings...

A great night...

The Seminar was great last night...especially since we got to host our own support team. This is an amazing business... they fly out on their own money just to come and help us out...of course they don't make money unless they help us make money...but that's why this thing works. Ok...1 more day off and 24 tomorrow....what exciting thrills and spills will that bring???? Stay tuned!!!

...and 3 more...

It's about 6:30 am and we've had 3 more calls since the last time I posted.. maybe I can nap at home before haveing to leave for our meeting...yeah, right. I always say that after a night like this but I get caught up in things at home and then it's time to go..I'm sure there are a few of you out there just like me...sorry about that...lol

The business grows again...

Well today I went to Illinois and signed up 2 paramedics in the business. They were very excited about it all since they'll be in together to help each other as well as me helping them. The part I love about the business is there's no pressure to buy anything, no pressure to do anything if you don't want. But like any business, you don't grow without volume. Since you're only changing your buying habits to buy from yourself instead of someone else's store, you don't have to put any extra money out... no inventory, etc. And the controversy about audios and books in the system (you can read the post here).. none of this is required... but would you go to college and not buy books (by the way, someone is making money on those books at college)? This is our education system and I love it. It has helped my and my wife in our current jobs also...Ok.. I need to make then less long-winded ...who wants to read all this stuff I type!!! lol

...Long Morning...

...So I get off work, go to get a haircut and the power goes out due to storms in our area...before I got in the chair...phew! Then my pager goes off (we're fulltime firefighter /paramedics and volunteers when off duty) for a lightning strike a few blocks away. I step out and sure enough, smoke is coming from a roof down the street. I get to the station, get on our tower and by the time I put my airpak on, we're there...but at another house a few blocks away that got hit also at the same time! We take care of that one and then go to the other fire that has a little more extensive damage but is fairly under control. By the time I'm done, the barber shop is still without electric, I still have longer hair then I'd like, my back hurts from carrying stuff tto an from the roof, and I go home and poof!... i'm blogging! I should be taking some type of pain meds and go to bed ...but nooooo, not me, being the computer techno-nerd that I am!

Going to bed....hope to sleep all night

Well other then 3 ambulance and 2 fire calls back to back to back...etc... at around noon, the shift has been pretty quiet. In another matter, I just got a call from our support team in Maryland for the internet business we have... We're hosting them this weekend as they are the guest speakers at our meeting in Chicago (actually Morris, IL). Always looking forward to being with them and getting mentored on the business (they earn a 6 figure income with the business) ... The great thing about this MLM is that there is a lot of personal support... we get support team members from New Mexico, Washington, Maryland. It's Great!!!.... Ok..I'm rambling...will try to post more tomorrow.

Off to Work...Woohoo!!!!!....

Ok I'm off to the station (I'm a firefighter /paramedic).... relatively slow station averaging about 6 calls per 24 hour shift including fire calls...but I guess that's why I've lasted 26 years there(!). And the other reason I have my legacybusiness.com site.... I WILL retire doing that!!! Any way...if anything exciting happens, I'll try to blog it at work...

Not a perfect experiment...

Well the "sex" thing wasn't perfect because I signed up for several blog traffic sites on the same day...and my hits have gone up a lot!!!. Now if only someone would comment on my stuff....ok, beggars can't be choosers!! ...Maybe if I put in such things as breast and nipple and lesbian....no, I won't do that.. he,he,he

If I put the word Sex in.....

I wondered if I put the word "sex" in my blog somewhere, would I get more hits? So this is a cheap experiment....It may work since you get those goofy emails with all the words smashed together just to hit the search engines, for example... no, I won't go that low and try it.Ok...get ready....set....Go.........
